Pro-Kurdish politicians sentenced: lawyers protest court decision with walkout and slogans
On May 16, 2024, in Ankara, Turkey, a Turkish court delivered sentences ranging from nine to 42 years in prison to several pro-Kurdish politicians for their alleged involvement in deadly riots back in 2014. The riots were sparked by Kurdish grievances over perceived government inaction against Islamic State militants besieging the Syrian border town of Kobani.
