While attending her sister's graduation at a PWI in Athens, Georgia, Destinee witnessed a humorous yet poignant moment. An older gentleman unknowingly broadcasts his screen's message about the lack of diversity that reads, "I'm surprised how few black kids..." Despite this, he later showed support for students of color.

Destinee's experience underscored the ongoing need for improved education access while also celebrating her sister's remarkable achievement as a Black woman in STEM.

While attending my sister’s graduation from her university, which was a PWI (predominantly white institution), I noticed an older gentleman sitting in front of me (whom I did not know) trying to discreetly share a message with his wife. However, the font was in large bold text, his screen was on full brightness, and it was in plain view. I thought his failed attempt to be secretive was cute and comedic, so I wanted to capture the moment but was completely surprised when I zoomed in and read the message, which noted the lack of diversity at the graduation. After making note of this, the older gentleman made sure to cheer for all the students of color graduating. It was a bittersweet moment because it made me realize how much further we need to go in improving education access for all, but I was also extremely proud of my little sister for graduating summa cum laude as a Black woman in STEM!
