China's tourism market is experiencing an upgrade and becoming a strong source of economic growth.
There is a new trend where many young Chinese are exploring traditional culture during their travels.
At a tourist attraction in Yongcheng City, central China's Henan Province, activities like the Hanfu parade and Han-style market have attracted many tourists.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): LI SIYI, Tourist
"Today, we tried on Han-style makeup and clothing, viewed calligraphy and painting displays, watched different stage shows, and enjoyed the entertainment options at the scenic spot. It was really enjoyable, and we felt fully immersed in the richness of traditional culture."
For many young Chinese, exploring lesser-known counties or towns to relax or discover unique local cultures has become a fashionable choice.
In Danzhai County, southwest China's Guizhou Province, a village known for its silverware art has emerged as a tourist attraction.
SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): LIU YIRUN, Tourist
"I come from northern China, so when I see these artifacts, I'm intrigued. The handmade crafts and traditional items appear incredibly beautiful to me, and I have a great fondness for them."
Museums have also gained popularity.
During the May Day holiday this year, the total number of museum visits exceeded 50 million, the highest in history for the same period, according to the National Cultural Heritage Administration.
During the holiday, domestic tourism spending in China reached 166.89 billion yuan (about 23.5 billion U.S. dollars), up 12.7 percent from the same period in 2023.
Many experts believe that Chinese youngsters' zeal for traditional Chinese culture will bring new development impetus for more tourism market segments.
