Pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched through central London on Saturday as they commemorated the recent 76th anniversary of Nakba Day and again repeated their calls for a ceasefire in the war-torn Gaza Strip as the Israel-Hamas conflict drags on.

The latest gathering follows months of protests in the UK capital, with Saturday's march putting the focus on the 76th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba day, or the day of "catastrophe", which is observed annually on May 15 to remember the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes after the establishment of Israel in 1948.

Demonstrators of all background expressed similar hopes and wishes, urging for an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people.

"Indeed it's been 76 years since Nakba took place. We are all out here for the humanity, as the sons and daughters of Adam and Eve, we are here to say no to the genocide, not just the 'Black Lives Matter', or Jewish lives matter, Palestinian lives matter as well, human lives matter," said one participant in the march.

"As an indigenous woman, obviously [I am here] in solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people. This represents equality, justice and freedom for all," said another participant.

One Israeli woman at the protest also strongly condemned what has been taking place in the Gaza Strip.

"Especially as an Israeli, my life was built on the ruin of [the] Palestinian [state]. So every Israeli should be obliged, it is our duty, but unfortunately most Israelis support the genocide of Palestinians and the ethnic cleaning of Palestinians. But I fulfill my duty to support Palestinian rights and the right of return. It's absolutely outrageous what we do to the Palestinian [people]," she said.

Another demonstrator pointed to the growing global discontent over the situation, noting the series of student protests which broke out on university campuses across the U.S. last month sent out a strong signal that people want peace.

"The international community now is completely fed up with what is happening and ordinary people are shocked that people are being killed and murdered on a daily basis. And then in the United States of America, for the first time, particularly students, they are all rising up and they want peace, they want an end to all this hate and prejudice," said another.

Prior to Saturday's march, the Metropolitan Police had issued a statement noting the impact the several months of protests have had on London's Jewish community, with the route being changed to reflect discussions with Jewish community leaders who said it would affect an event at a nearby Synagogue.

Student protests also took place in other parts of the UK -- including at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and the London School of Economics (LSE), also to commemorate the Nakba day.
