A massive giant mutant rat stunned locals in China.

The gargantuan rodent crawled out of the sewers and onto the pavement, shocking passers-by in Hanzhong City in Shaanxi province on March 21.

Footage shows people gawping and taking videos of the rat, which is believed to be a 'nutria' or 'beaver rat'.

A nutria, also known as a coypu, is a large, semi-aquatic rodent native to South America, but are also found in various parts of North America, Europe, and Asia where they are considered invasive species. They are known for their voracious appetite for vegetation, which can cause significant damage to wetlands and agricultural crops.
