Pakistani man and Thai wife arrested for murdering Indian man 'over business conflict'
A Pakistani man and his Thai wife were arrested for allegedly murdering an Indian man over a business conflict in Thailand.
Yasir Ashfaq, 33, and his wife Kadijayasi Ashfaq, 38, reportedly lured their Indian business partner Poulose Varghese Kadaparambil, 53, on a car trip to Songkhla, Thailand, before shooting him and dumping his body on the roadside.
Police Major General Somkane Phosi, commander of the Phang Nga Provincial Police, said the Indian man's body was discovered near the undergrowth along a highway leading to Phang Nga province on May 15.
He said: 'The victim had on a yellow t-shirt and black pants. He had two stab wounds on his back and one of his wrists, as well as a gunshot wound to the back of his neck.'
Authorities said Poulose arrived in Thailand on April 19, and was staying at the couple's condominium in Phuket.
Police said they found security camera footage reportedly showing the three heading to Phang Nga province in a Toyota Vios driven by Kadijayasi on May 14.
Officers believe Poulose had a row with the couple because he was allegedly tricked into investing his money, before they shot him dead and left his body at the scene.
Authorities said the suspects fled to a house in Phang Nga, where they washed the car to tamper with evidence.
The firearm - a CZ pistol loaded with nine bullets - and Poulose's shoes were found in the home, while his valuables were stored at the condominium in Phuket.
Police arrested Yasir and Kadijayasi on May 18, on an arrest warrant issued by the Phang Nga Provincial Court.
The couple were charged with intentional murder and possession of a firearm without a permit, with penalties ranging from 15 to 20 years imprisonment, life imprisonment, or the death penalty.
Police Major General Montree Thetkhan, commander of the Crime Suppression Division, said: 'The suspects have denied the charges, claiming they parted ways with the victim at Kata Beach in Phuket. However, we do not believe them because we have obtained strong evidence to prove their guilt.'
