From May 18 to 19, Guangxi in southern China experienced its heaviest rainfall of the year, with Qinzhou recording an unprecedented 189.6 millimeters of rain in one hour, breaking historical records. On May 19 at 5:45 AM, the Nanning Meteorological Observatory upgraded its orange rainstorm warning to red due to the severe downpour.

The torrential rain caused significant flooding in some neighborhoods of Nanning, submerging entire ground floors and forcing residents to swim to safety. According to staff from the Changgang Road Community in Qingxiu District, the heavy rain led to severe flooding in parts of the area, with water levels reaching up to three meters in the worst-hit spots.

Videos captured by residents show floodwaters rising past the first floor of buildings, submerging vehicles, and prompting those living on the ground floor to move to higher levels. Some residents even swam to safety. Firefighters used inflatable boats to rescue those trapped inside the flooded neighborhoods.

Community staff from Changgang Road reported that from 5 AM, they, along with firefighters and other relevant departments, have been fully mobilized. By 11 AM, over 200 residents had been evacuated using inflatable boats.

The video was provided with permission from local media.
