Gaza Strip - May 18, 2024

In a significant boost to humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has facilitated the transfer of over 1,000 truckloads of essential supplies to the region, including food, water, medical supplies, and shelter equipment. This milestone was achieved through the coordination of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), which has been working tirelessly to increase the flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.

According to official figures, 1,050 trucks were inspected and transferred to the Gaza Strip through the Kerem Shalom Crossing and Erez Crossing this week, following rigorous security checks. The convoy included 204 flour trucks donated by the World Food Program (WFP) to support the organization's bakery activities in the region.

In addition, 162,000 liters of fuel and diesel were transported to support the operation of essential humanitarian infrastructure, including hospitals and shelters. A total of 120 Jordanian trucks carrying humanitarian aid also made their way into the Gaza Strip.

The construction of a floating pier by US CENTCOM has also enabled the transfer of hundreds of pallets of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip via sea. This new infrastructure has significantly increased the capacity for humanitarian aid to reach those in need.

The IDF has reiterated its commitment to allowing humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip through all available channels – land, air, and sea – in accordance with international law. The continued efforts by COGAT and the Ministry of Defense have ensured that vital supplies are reaching those affected by the crisis in Gaza.
