Tampa, FL, USA - May 9, 2024

New dash camera footage reveals a dramatic high-speed chase in Miami-Dade County that ended with a woman jumping into a lake in an attempt to evade authorities, NBC Affiliate NBC6 reports.

On May 9, Melina Logan, 27, of North Carolina, went to Honda of South Miami for a test drive of a new Honda Civic. Logan allegedly stole the vehicle during the test drive, prompting a high-speed pursuit involving Miami-Dade Police and the Florida Highway Patrol.

The video shows Logan driving aggressively, making rapid lane changes, and using the shoulder to pass other vehicles. The chase culminated in a crash involving multiple vehicles, leaving the stolen Honda disabled and pinned against a concrete wall.

In a desperate bid to escape, Logan is seen jumping from the roadway into a nearby lake. Despite officers throwing ropes for her to climb out, Logan refused assistance, leading several officers to jump in after her. During the rescue, Logan reportedly scratched one Miami-Dade officer and pushed a Doral officer’s head underwater. Additionally, one driver involved in the crash was injured and subsequently hospitalized.

Logan was arrested and booked into jail on multiple charges, including grand theft of a vehicle, two counts of battery on a police officer, fleeing and eluding police, leaving the scene of a crash, and resisting an officer. The incident has raised concerns about the safety risks associated with high-speed pursuits.

The driver injured in the crash remains hospitalized, highlighting the potential dangers to both law enforcement and the public during such pursuits. Authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the chase and crash.
