Five killed after SUV ploughs into bus stop crowd in China
A white SUV sped into a group of pedestrians at a bus stop, killing 5 in southern China.
The shocking CCTV footage was filmed in the county of Wusheng in Sichuan Province on May 21.
The SUV was severely damaged in the aftermath. "They were just waiting for the bus when it hit them," recounted one witness, visibly shaken by the tragedy.
The Wusheng County Public Security Bureau released an official statement regarding the incident. According to their report, at approximately 7:00 am, Sun, a 52-year-old male, was driving a compact car on the G350 road at the 463km+400m mark when he collided with 5 pedestrians.
The impact killed two individuals instantly, while three others succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to the hospital.
Sun has been detained by the authorities. Preliminary tests have ruled out both drug and alcohol impairment. An in-depth investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway.
