Japanese authorities have built a barrier at a popular viewing spot for Mount Fuji as exasperated locals complained of rule-breaking tourists holding up traffic while taking pictures.

Seen in the video, the site - a pavement in front of a Lawson convenience store in the town of Fujikawaguchiko - offers visitors a clear view of the incredible snow-capped mountain in the Yamanashi prefecture.

However, the influx of holidaymakers, many of whom litter, trespass, and jay walk, have prompted town officials to install a barrier to block the view.

Workers finished installing the 2.5 by 20-metre black net on May 21 afternoon as residents hope the drastic measures finally curb the spate of tourists crowding the spot to take Instagram photos.
