A farmer based in Sacramento, California, rescued a baby hawk whose feathers hadn't fully unfurled.

Footage shows the bird lying still on the ground unable to fly off due to its feathers not being fully developed.

"Our neighbour called saying he saw what looked like a wounded baby hawk in our yard," said the filmer.

They added: "I went to check on it with gloves to make sure it wasn’t injured, there were no parents around and it responded very calmly to me. I took it just a few yards away to a safer spot with tree coverage from where I found it and placed it in an old cat patio with door open so it could go in and out.

"I assessed it to make sure it wasn’t injured and it seemed that the wings were unfurling, also it was likely fledging which means it’s trying to learn how to fly. I watched to see if parents came around and thankfully they did, dropped off food for it several times.

"I would have called wildlife service if it was injured but it was apparent that it was in parents care so I let wildlife be. It’s still roaming around the area I put it and we hope to see it take flight soon!"
