This is the heroic moment a stranded dog was rescued as heavy tropical rain caused flash floods in Thailand.

Footage shows residents wading through fast-flowing torrents while carrying the canine through the deluge in Chachoegnsao province on May 21.

Severe rain hammered the area, triggering flash floods of up to 80 centimetres deep near the Ban Si Charoen Thong School.

Drivers carefully negotiated the road as some of their cars stalled amid the flood, said to be the worst experienced by the Tha Takiap district in 50 years.

The Thai Meteorological Department forecasted widespread thunderstorms across eastern Thailand, including Chachoengsao province.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.

The floods came on the same day that a Singapore Airlines flight was battered by turbulence, killing one person and leaving dozens more injured. The plane made an emergency landing in Bangkok.
