A British man has apologised for his drunken attack on pump attendants at a petrol station in Thailand.

Anthony Davis, 44, reportedly drank beers with his friends before driving into a PTT fuel station and assaulting staff over a row in Udon Thani province on May 21.

Claiming to be a police officer, he left two pump attendants injured, sparking a search after the workers filed a report with the police with CCTV evidence.

Authorities were able to identify Anthony through his license plate, and he was summoned to the Mueang Udon Thani Police Station to explain himself on May 24.

Police said Anthony was staying with his Thai wife and daughter on a marriage visa. They were staying in the northeastern Isaan region, where he learned Thai and picked up the regional accent.

Footage shows the British man meekly apologising to the pump attendant Jirawat Sunthorn, 25, his parents, and cashier Pranee Uttasiriwong, 38. He made a wai gesture as he bowed his head and tried to make amends.

Anthony claimed that on the day of the incident, he had been drinking with friends during the Bun Bai Fang rocket festival and could not refuse drinks from the villagers. He said he was not in the right state of mind during the attack.

He said: 'I would like to pay compensation for the treatment costs and psychological damage I may have caused.

'I promise not to do this to other people again, especially Thai people who welcomed me into their country.

'I know that I must be considerate, respect the law, and act in accordance with Thai culture.'

Anthony added that he had moved from England to Thailand, where he has been staying for 22 years.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Thanadech Butsababodin of the Udon Thani Immigration Bureau said: 'I want to tell foreigners who have Thai wives that, when visiting tourist destinations, they must respect the laws and follow Thai culture.

'Thai wives should also communicate to their foreign husbands on how to behave in Thailand.

'The Udon Thani Immigration Bureau and other offices across the country always inform foreigners about this when they extend their visas.'

Anthony was fined for physical assault and disorderly behaviour.

The Udon Thani Immigration Bureau said it was lenient on him because it was his first offence, adding he may have his visa revoked if he causes trouble again.
