Chung Biu Yuen, suspect in Hong Kong espionage case, leaves London's Old Bailey Central Criminal Court

Chung Biu Yuen, 63, a retired Hong Kong police officer now employed as an office manager at the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London and a suspect in a Hong Kong espionage case, leaves the City of London's Old Bailey Central Criminal Court on the morning of Friday 24 May 2024. Chi Leung Wai was in court for a mention alongside co-defendant Chi Leung Wai, 38, a UK Border Force Officer and ex-City of London Police Special Constable. Both men are accused of allegedly assisting the Hong Kong intelligence services to spy on Hong Kong pro-democracy dissidents living in the United Kingdom. A third defendant in the case, former Royal Marine Matthew Trickett, was found dead in a public park in Maidenhead on Sunday 19 May 2024, Trickett's death is being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course, according to a statement from Thames Valley Police. The men will next appear in court on 25 October 2024.
