Maharashtra is facing an acute drinking water shortage with Marathwada, Pune, and North Maharashtra regions facing a difficult situation.The reservoirs’ water level was depleting speedily.

A water crisis is looming large in Maharashtra as water levels in rivers and dams across the state have dropped to 32.72% of their total storage capacity. With rising mercury levels, water scarcity is only becoming more severe. The demand for water tankers is increasing as villages struggle to access water.

126 out of 148 villages in Thane district have been facing acute water shortage this summer. Women from these villages spend hours fetching water from rivers, tanks and wells, often walking 2-3 km under the hot sun with infants and children in tow.
