This Rare Bird Has Never Been Seen In Saskatchewan: Chasing Scarlet Tanager

Is climate change forcing birds to migrate further north? Is this bird lost?

The appearance of a bright red Scarlet Tanager has sparked the interest of bird lovers across Saskatchewan and the city of Regina. Having the world's largest urban park, people here are used to seeing all kinds of birds showing up in spring and summer around Wascana Lake. To the surprise of bird photographers, this spectacularly bright red bird started to show up in a popular park on Regina's west side. For several days, posts on Facebook birding groups began to light up with the colors of the Scarlet Tanager.

This is a photo and video slideshow of all the footage I could capture of this rare and elusive bright red Scarlet Tanager. Found on May 20th on Regina's west side park called A.E. Wilson Park which is situated on Wascana Creek with a big island and trails and bridges. This was trip 2 of 3 that I took to try and catch a glimpse of the spectacular Scarlet Tanager. This bird normally has a range limited to more southern and eastern regions of North America. Seems like the extra active tornado season in the states is causing many species of birds to flock further north than usual.
