The Los Angeles Fire Department battled flames overnight consuming the vacant, historic Crouch Memorial Church of God in Christ building.

Nicholas Prange, spokesperson for the LAFD, reported at 2:40 a.m. Friday that firefighters were battling heavy flames at a two-story vacant church in the 1000 block of East 27th Street in Historic South-Central Los Angeles.

It took 66 firefighters 38 minutes to knock down the greater alarm structure fire, reported Prange.

The vacant church, which had previously burned, sustained partial roof collapses at times during the defensive fire fight, said Prange.

The previous burn was in October of 2013, according to information from an article by Our Weekly Los Angeles. That fire was deemed accidental and involved a wall heater. There was a partial roof collapse during that fire as well.

The 2013 fire raged on for hours, gutting the interior and leaving multiple LAFD firefighters injured, according to Our Weekly LA.

There were no reported injuries in the overnight fire and the cause is under investigation.
