Two children hospitalised in Birmingham house fire as man and woman are arrested on Suspicion of Child Neglect

A police presence outside a house on Wharf Road in the Kings Norton area of Birmingham, England after a house fire led to two children aged 3 and 5 being rescued and taken to hospital on Saturday afternoon.

A 32-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect.

WEST MIDLANDS POLICE STATEMENT: ‘We've arrested two people following a house fire at an address in Birmingham yesterday (25 May).

‘We were called by the fire service just after 4.30pm to an address on Wharf Road, Kings Norton to a house fire where two children were inside.

‘A three-year-old and five-year-old child were rescued from the house and taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

‘A 32-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect.

‘They are currently in custody an will be questioned by officers.

‘Forensics teams will be at the house today to establish a cause for the fire.’
