A closer look at the landslide scars that triggered the deadly cold lava and flash floods in an Indonesian volcano.

Footage filmed from Tabek Gadang-Bukit Batabuah, Agam Regency, West Sumatra Province, within a 5-kilometer radius of Mount Marapi's crater, on Saturday (2024/05/25).

On the right, volcanic material landslide scars can be seen around the crater. On the left, landslides on the mountain cliff are visible.

Both landslides occurred during extreme heavy rainfall in the mountain area, causing cold lava and flash floods to hit three surrounding towns on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

"There used to be five points of landslides on the cliff on the left of the mountain, but now they have grown larger. A larger follow-up landslide occurred after the flash floods of May 11th. The landslide material is now piled up waiting for another heavy rain to fall, even heavier. Hopefully it won't happen," said Joni Malin, a local resident of Cumantiang.

Two weeks after the incident, as of today (Saturday, May 25), the tragedy has claimed 62 lives, and 10 people are still missing in the search. More than a thousand people have been displaced. Meanwhile, the cleanup of the affected areas is still ongoing.
