The Madison Fire Department swiftly responded to reports of a blaze at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, located on the 100 block of W. Johnson Street. Firefighting efforts are currently ongoing at the scene, with authorities closing off West Johnson Street at State Street. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes to navigate the area safely.

As of 1:50 pm on May 24, 2024, West Johnson Street has reopened to traffic, and the Madison Fire Department has cleared from the site. However, the MFD Fire Investigation Team remains on-site to assess the aftermath of the fire.

An earlier update at 1:12 pm confirmed that firefighters successfully extinguished the flames engulfing the church. Nevertheless, traffic to W. Johnson St. remains restricted as authorities continue to manage the situation.
