On May 21, 2024, chaos ensued at the Hacklebarney Campground near Us Hwy 34/Us Hwy 71, as Sergeant Todd Dollen, badge #69-9, found himself in the path of a tornado while evacuating campers. Bodycam footage captured the harrowing ordeal as Sgt. Dollen, in a race against time, worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of campground occupants.

As the tornado bore down on the area, Sgt. Dollen demonstrated remarkable courage and selflessness. Despite the imminent danger, he managed to guide campers to shelter, prioritizing their safety above his own. However, his own escape route was thwarted when a fallen tree blocked his vehicle's path to safety on the equestrian side of the campground.

With no alternative options available, Sgt. Dollen made the split-second decision to ride out the tornado inside his vehicle. The gripping footage, captured by the bodycam, provides a glimpse into the sheer force of nature as the tornado passed overhead, sparing Sgt. Dollen from harm.

While the tornado left a trail of destruction in its wake, particularly in the eastern portion of Montgomery County, the community is relieved that there were no reports of major injuries.
