Mount Ibu in West Halmahera, Indonesia, erupted violently as recorded by CCTV PVMBG


The PVMBG surveillance camera from the Mount Ibu monitoring post recorded the moment of the eruption of Mount Ibu, North Maluku, which occurred on May 27 2024 at 03.03 local time, with the height of the ash column observed to be 6,000 meters above the peak of 7,325 meters above sea level.

The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning towards the west. This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 28 mm and a temporary duration of 3 minutes 57 seconds.

There was an explosion and a roar. Currently Mount Ibu has Level IV (Caution) status with the community around Mount Ibu and tourist visitors are advised not to carry out activities within a 4 kilometer radius and a sectoral expansion of 7 kilometers towards the crater opening to the north of the active crater.
