A woman is turning her engagement ring into a divorce pendant to make her feel "strong and beautiful". "

Lauren Elizabeth, 32, had an on and off marriage for seven years before she and her partner called it off in February 2024.

Lauren hadn't worn her $11,000 AUD diamond engagement ring for several years but didn't want to sell it or give it back.

After seeing model Emily Ratajkowski turn her rings into divorce rings Lauren looked into doing the same thing.

She has now sent off her engagement ring to be redesigned into a simple necklace with a silver chain.

It will cost Lauren $750 AUD plus the additional cost of the chain that she chooses.

Lauren, a phycology student and independent social support worker, from Adelaide, Australia said: "I made a decision to do something big."

"It was Emily's idea that inspired me. I'm grateful for her for putting it out there."

"We don't have to be stripped of our diamonds."

"Why do we have to get rid of them?"

"I'm changing something very negative that made me feel uneasy."

"To something that makes me feel strong and beautiful and to show I got through it."

"Now I get to love them again."

Lauren tied the knot in 2017 and had an up and down relationship before filing for divorce in February 2024.

She didn't know what to do with her rings until she saw Emily Ratajkowski turn hers into a new piece of jewellery.

Lauren said: "I hadn't worn them for several years."

"I didn't know what to do with them."

"I always loved them."

"They are beautiful. "

"I didn't think he deserved to have it handed back to him."

Lauren had originally hoped to have eternity ring resized as well as her engagement ring.

She said: "I had hoped to have the eternity ring resized so I could put it on my middle finger to be like f**k you. "

"But resizing the ring was quite difficult."

"I might sell it or remove the diamonds and make another ring."

Lauren was originally going to have her platinum engagement ring turned into a new ring but felt it still looked too similar and decided to make a pendant instead.

She said: "I wanted to look at it as completely different item of jewellery."

"So it isn't a trigger to me."

"I was young when I got married. It felt like a failure to be divorcing."

Lauren has had the designs back for her necklace - a simple silver chain showcasing the diamond - and has been quoted $750 AUD.

She said: "It feels like a present. It feels like a celebration."

"It's exciting to be starting a new life."

"It's worth it."

The pendant will take a couple of weeks to complete but Lauren can't wait to wear it again.

She said: "I deserve to feel happy to wear it every day."

"It's something I'll have forever."

"I'm getting the ring I deserve."
