Gaza: Witnesses recall horrifying Israeli strike on Rafah tent camp that kills at least 45
Rafah, Gaza Strip - May 27, 2024
Storyline:
An Israeli airstrike on a displacement camp in Gaza's Rafah on late Sunday has sparked global condemnation and outrage. The strike triggered a fire that killed at least 45 Palestinians, with many of them being women and children, and injured numerous others.
Israel said that the strike was aimed at Hamas officials and described the civilian deaths as "a tragic mishap" to be investigated.
Witnesses recalled the horrifying scene, saying the place was totally burnt, with the remains of bodies scattered everywhere. The missiles hit the heart of the camp, destroying cars, tents and injuring many children, the elderly, men, and women, many of whom would have to have their limbs amputated.
This particular area was designated by the Israeli forces as a safe area before the strike. People in these makeshift camps sought safety, hoping to remain unharmed.
However, the latest development proved yet again that there is no safe place in Gaza.
The situation has continued to be extremely catastrophic, The international organizations and the field hospitals there have declared a status of extreme alert and preparedness as they foresee more of those incidents to take place in the coming days.
