As part of an annual ritual to ward off evil spirits, devotees in Pondicherry, India bathed in water mixed with 108 kilos of chili powder during Hindu temple celebrations on May 25, 2024.

Thousands gathered for the ritual, which took place at the Idayanchavadi village during the Aadi Amavasai Festival.

Male devotees bought the chili powder solution and drank it like nectar, believing that by participating in this event, childless couples would be blessed with children, marital issues would be resolved, and financial debts would be alleviated.

The event has been held by the villagers for 89 consecutive years.
