This is the terrifying moment dozens of snakes slithered out of a toilet in India.

The pit of keelback snakes emerged in the bathroom of a newly constructed home in the Kalibor area of Assam state on May 28.

Footage shows the semi-aquatic snake hatchlings poking their heads out of the stone toilet.

Snake catcher Sanjib Deka, known locally as the 'Serpent Man', arrived to catch the reptiles and placed them in a bucket.

He said: 'The house owner informed me about the presence of snakes and I reached the spot. I found that many snakes were crawling at the place.

'I recovered around 35 snakes crawling from a newly constructed toilet of the house. Later, I released the snakes in the Joisagar Dalani area.'

He added that the snakes had likely made a nest and laid eggs which hatched inside the bathroom.

Keelback snakes are a group of non-venomous or mildly venomous, semi-aquatic snakes found mostly in Asia. They are known for the distinctive 'keeled' scales that form ridges along their bodies, giving them a rough texture. They primarily feed on amphibians and small fish and are generally harmless to humans.
