Kindergarten's real-life skills program in China attracts global interest
The children at a kindergarten have captured attention with their enthusiastic daily "work" routine, earning the playful moniker "Preschool Vocational Institute".
The video was filmed in Weifang City in Shandong Province on April 20.
From stir-frying dishes to baking pancakes, grilling skewers, crafting mats, embroidering, and even sewing... these pint-sized prodigies showcase a diverse array of skills that have left spectators in awe, with many exclaiming, "They're simply amazing!"
Following their viral fame, over 2,000 kindergarten principals from across the nation rushed to learn their secrets, while scores of international parents clamoured for enrolment spots.
Explaining the origins of this delightful phenomenon, Wang Yanqing, Head of Qinglan Preschool Education Group, revealed that it all began with a simple idea to utilise unused household items for children's amusement. Observing the children's unbridled joy as they engaged in imaginative play, Wang was struck by inspiration: "Must our educational games be confined to make-believe? Why not offer children the chance to engage in real-life scenarios under safe conditions? To truly listen, observe, and experience. Perhaps this is the precious opportunity for growth that children need."
Since then, Headmistress Wang has spearheaded an educational revolution, shifting from pretend play to "real work," where children quickly excel in autonomous, real-world activities.
Addressing the sudden popularity of her kindergarten, Wang further elaborated on her intentions, emphasising the aim to immerse children in traditional culture and foster essential life skills through play-based learning.
Wang remarked, "Children are naturally lively and active, with play as their essence. For them, play is life, and life is play. Our philosophy is simple: education should heed the voices of children, unleash their innate qualities, and return to the true essence of education."
With Qinglan Blue Sky Windmill Kindergarten blazing a trail in innovative early childhood education, Wang's vision promises a return to the authentic roots of learning, where joyous play paves the way for profound growth and discovery.
