Locals caught a 10ft long crocodile that climbed out of a river in India.

Footage shows the hulking beast clambering up the railings while trying to return to the Ganga canal in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, on May 29.

However, the heavy croc could not vault over the barrier and was later rescued by wildlife officials.

Forest department staff first tied its snout to keep it from snapping before tying up the rest of its limbs with rope.

As the reptile had sustained injuries while trying to escape, it was first treated and then returned into the water.

India has two main crocodile species - the saltwater croc and the mugger croc, which is found in freshwater rivers.
