Taal Volcano spewed gas in the Philippines on Thursday morning.

Footage shows the volcano expelling thick plumes in Batangas province at around 7:00 am local time on May 30.

Philippine seismological agency PHIVOLCS said Taal Volcano had been calm since May 24, but rumbled with activity on May 29 when five volcanic tremors were recorded.

In a May 30 bulletin, the agency said six volcanic tremors lasting around five to 14 minutes long were detected, while a 'voluminous emission' of gas plumes reached up to 4,921 feet.

Upwelling of volcanic fluids in the main crater was also observed.

Taal Volcano is currently at Alert Level 1 indicating low-level unrest.

The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
