A brave buffalo survived an attack by five lions jumping on his back.

Abdelrahman Hassanein was leading a tour through the Maasai Mara national reserve, Kenya, when he spotted a buffalo being scouted by a pride.

Dramatic footage captured the moment an 800kg buffalo suddenly started sprinting across the savannah before the five lions leapt on to his back.

Despite the lions jumping on the bull’s back and biting at its legs the buffalo managed to escape the attack with just some deep scratches.

Abdelrahman said: “We did not expect any action because of the heat so we were refreshed by the sudden action.

“It was good reward for me and my guests after normal morning game drive as it was noon time.

“The buffalo managed to escaped with just deep scratches on his back.

“The actual battle took around five minutes but we waited another 15 minutes before the attack when the lions tried to put a siege.”
