STORYLINE:
In a significant representation of Hong Kong's youth on the global stage, 20-year-old Jason Lee was recently selected to speak at the Youth Forum on the sidelines of the 67th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) held in Vienna.
Lee, the first Hong Kong youth to address the forum, shared the experiences and strategies of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in drug education and community anti-drug efforts with young people worldwide.
Jason Lee, a student at the University of Hong Kong studying English, is a member of the first "Youth Uniformed Group Leaders Forum." The forum aims to deepen the engagement of various government departments and services in youth work.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Cantonese): JASON LEE, Hong Kong student
"Among the attendees were students like myself, social workers from the social welfare sector, and founders of NGOs. Despite our different roles, it's crucial that we all work together on this important task of drug education."
Lee reflected on the unforgettable experience at the UN, highlighting a shared belief and common goal among participants from different countries.
Lee's journey in drug prevention advocacy began at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Drug InfoCentre (DIC), where he served as a guide, educating young students about drug knowledge and the dangers of drug use.
SOUNDBITE 2 (Cantonese): JASON LEE, Hong Kong student
"These are small stories with big lessons, helping children understand the importance of preventing drug and substance abuse so they won't stray onto the wrong path. I believe this method can help many people."
As a university student, Lee has taken his mission from the small confines of DIC to the international stage, representing Hong Kong's youth in global discussions.
Now a senior member of the Youth Uniformed Group Leaders Forum, Lee hopes to pass on his knowledge and experiences to new members, encouraging them with his three principles of heart: compassion, enthusiasm for community service, and confidence in oneself and the team.
