Wild elephant shakes car while searching for food
This is the terrifying moment a wild elephant shook a car while searching for food in Thailand.
Video shows the jumbo rattling the pickup truck that was passing through Chachoengsao province on May 25.
The elephant damaged the vehicle when it started tapping the door with its foot. It nearly pushed the truck onto the roadside before finally stepping away, allowing the driver to flee.
The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation advised motorists using the route to drive slowly and to stop their vehicles upon encountering a wild elephant.
They were urged not to rev the engine, honk the horn, or flash the headlights in order to avoid spooking the animals.
Thailand has up to 3,500 elephants in the wild. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in the country at the beginning of the 20th century.
The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
