Police lead relief goods distribution as cyclone Remal causes severe floods in northeastern India
Cyclone Remal has unleashed severe flooding in northeastern India's Manipur, prompting extensive relief goods distribution led by the Imphal police.
The incident took place in the Imphal west on May 31.
Visuals showed how the police are distributing relief goods and water bottles to the affected areas.
Over 4,000 people have been rescued, with police teams distributing relief goods and water bottles to severely affected areas as the state grapples with the crisis. The Nambul and Imphal rivers have overflowed, inundating homes and streets in low-lying areas of Imphal, the state capital. The Imphal police, along with other emergency services, are at the forefront of relief efforts in the most affected districts of Imphal East and Imphal West.
Police teams are conducting door-to-door rescues, using boats and other equipment to evacuate stranded residents. They are also distributing essential supplies such as food, water, and medical aid. Temporary shelters have been set up to accommodate those displaced by the floods.
The state government has declared a holiday until May 31 to focus on managing the disaster. Departments responsible for relief and essential services, including home, police, disaster management, power, health and family welfare, district administration, and water resources, continue to operate around the clock. Authorities urge the community to remain safe and adhere to official instructions as rescue and relief operations continue.
