SOUNDBITE (English): IBO GÜLSEN, Chairman of World Tulip Society
"China has a very rich garden culture, garden history. In Jiangsu (province), there are many ancient Chinese gardens that are beautiful to visit. And the love for horticulture and the expertise in horticulture is brought from generation to generation. Because we share a lot of similarities in our coastline, in our love for flowers, in our love for nature, how do we turn that appreciation for those resources into tourism assets without destroying what you cherish? When you look at sustainability, you can see that they care about the environment. They have a UNESCO world heritage for migratory birds protection. The park in Dafeng Holland flower (park) is built on sustainability, on caring for nature, on caring for plants. But it's also sustainable in business model, because they invented the model that keeps on attracting visitors and tourists every year. So it's not only about enjoying the flowers. It's also about the combination with art, with culture, with entertainment, with food and beverage, to create a complete visitor journey for the visitors. And that has proven to be sustainable. You're sustainable in nature, and you're sustainable in business, and I think that combination is a win-win."
