FIFTY firefighters tackle industrial blaze as explosions are heard near Birmingham city centre
Approximately 50 firefighters are in attendance at a industrial fire on Lower Tower Street in Newtown, Birmingham.
West Midlands Fire Service have 10 fire engines, a high volume pump crew and a hydraulic platform at the blaze which is contained to an outside yard with vehicles, cylinders, packaging and waste.
Locals reported hearing explosions as the fire took hold.
The smoke could be seen for miles around the city.
A 999 call came in at 3.20pm to a large industrial building yard fire.
Firefighters are now attempting to prevent fire spreading to adjacent properties.
It is understood that the yard contains an unknown number of cylinders.
It has not been reported that anyone was injured although paramedics are on hand if required.
