In the video filmed on May 30, the water of the Minjiang River in Songpan County, Aba, southern China, has turned unusually red, causing widespread concern.

Video showed the river has a very bright red water surface. As the water continues to flow, the red has not dimmed, some people speculate that it may be factory paint flowing into the river.

On May 31, the staff of the relevant departments in Songpan County responded that the relevant situation had been reflected, and the river water was indeed unusually red on the 30th, but it was not dye or pigment flowing into the river.

After the joint investigation of the local ecological environment, water and other departments, the abnormal state of the water is about 2km, the water is brown red, after sampling has been sent to professional institutions for inspection. After testing, the heavy metals in the water samples did not exceed the standard, and the acute toxicity test result of the water quality was non-toxic.

After investigation, the coastal drinking water sources were not in the abnormal water body reach, and drinking water was not affected. At present, Songpan County is organising relevant experts to further investigate the cause of the abnormal river water.

The video was provided with permission from local media.
