Leopard scales 10ft-wall to catch a pet hen in India
A leopard was seen jumping over a 10ft-wall to hunt a resident's pet hen in India.
CCTV footage shows the big cat's eyes glowing from a dark corner before emerging into view in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on May 29.
It then swiftly leapt up the concrete structure to catch the bird on the ledge, which dodged away and fell to the front of the home.
However, the wild animal climbed down and carried it away from the property with its mouth.
Officers from the forest department said the area was identified as a human-animal conflict zone, and locals have been warned to be alert when going outside due to this.
They said that hens, usually clucking in the early morning hours, might have attracted the hungry animal nearby.
The leopard population in India has grown from 12,852 in 2018, to 13,874 in 2022, according to the 'Status of Leopards in India 2022' report, released by the Union Environment Ministry on February 29.
The development of homes in and around forests has led to an increase in conflicts with humans.
