A cow was rescued after falling into a septic tank in Central India.

Footage shows the animal looking weak as it nestled on the bottom of the 12ft-deep hole in Madhya Pradesh on June 2.

Volunteers from the charity Atal Kamdhenu Gausevak Sansthan, dedicated in rescuing stray cows around the country, tied a rope around its body before at least eight men helped to lift it out.

The bovine was saved after two hours and then released to a safer area of the neighbourhood.
