Fake Labubu toys from China flooded Bangkok's Chinatown stores amid a surge in popularity.

Video shows the knock-off products, some with Chinese labels, being sold in shops at the Mega Plaza mall in Bangkok on April 24.

The toys were confiscated by police as authorities warned enthusiasts to check their suppliers following complaints of fraudulent sales of Labubu goods, which sell for thousands of baht in the market.

On May 16, Central Investigation Bureau officers also confiscated more than 100 bogus Labubu toys at a mall in Nonthaburi province.

Police said the shop owners caught selling the fake toys may be charged 'manufacturing or importing industrial products without the required standard certification for sale within the kingdom', which carries a punishment of up to two years in jail, a fine of up to two million THB (44,000 GBP), or both.

They may also be charged with 'selling or possessing for sale industrial products without the appropriate authorisation', with a penalty of up to six months imprisonment, a fine up to 500,000 THB (11,000 GBP), or both.

Police said Labubu toys, which recently saw a spike in popularity in Thailand, must pass Thai Industrial Standards before being sold.

Labubu is part of The Monsters universe created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung in 2015. The character, which looks like a rabbit with a mischievous grin showing its jagged teeth, is the most popular in the series.

Demand for Labubu keychains soared in Thailand after Lisa of the Korean pop dancing group Blackpink posed with the toy in April.
