El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele began his second term in office on Saturday after winning the election on 5 February. After a landslide election in which he won 84.6% of the vote, the president made a speech in front of international guests, including Argentinean President Javier Milei, in which he said: "The public must be better than the private, do not listen to voices".

At the ceremony, held at the National Palace of El Salvador, Bukele was sworn in to assume the presidency for the period 2024-2029 and added: "Don't listen to voices that try to poison the minds of the people when we build something good for the people and it is the people who use it".

The Salvadoran leader was able to stand for election after a six-month leave of absence and the approval of the judges of the Constitutional Chamber. At the event, he said that the challenge is to "maintain security in the country and achieve economic prosperity".
