Evergreen, CO, USA - June 2, 2024

In a heartwarming display of compassion and expertise, wildlife officers from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Northeast Region sprang into action to rescue a cub trapped in wire fencing in Evergreen.

The distressed cub found itself entangled in gnarly wire fencing, with its concerned mother nearby but unable to render assistance. Determined to intervene, the wildlife officers embarked on a rescue mission to free the stranded cub.

The operation began with the tranquilization of the sow, ensuring the safety of both the cub and the officers during the rescue. With the mother sedated, the team swiftly employed a catchpole to secure the cub, preventing further injury as they meticulously removed the entangling wires.

Despite the cub's initial distress, the dedicated efforts of the officers soon led to a successful outcome, with the cub liberated and poised for recovery.

Yet, the mission didn't end there. To prevent any inadvertent return to the hazardous fencing, K9 Officer Samson was enlisted to assist in hazing the mother and cub away from the area, ensuring their continued safety.
