Vietnamese artist paints beautiful landscapes onto traditional conical hats
A Vietnamese artist painted beautiful landscapes onto traditional conical hats.
Footage shows Le Thanh Son using a brush to draw trees in a green, yellow, and orange field with a mountain backdrop in Vinh Long province, Vietnam.
She used a small garage as her workshop, designing handicraft hats with paint.
Le Thanh said her artwork goes through three main stages which is drawing the background, adding details to it, and finishing touches.
She said: ‘My favourite subjects were flowers, buffaloes, coconut trees, tall trees golden rice fields, rivers or girls wearing traditional clothes.'
Each hat cost 100,000 VND (3.08 GBP), and they already had handpainted designs.
The traditional conical hats locally called 'non la' originated as headwear for farmers and peasants to provide shade from the sun while working in the rice fields. The broad conical shape casts a wide shadow over the face and shoulders. They are lightweight, breathable, and rainproof due to materials like bamboo, palm leaves, and oils used to treat the exterior fabric.
