STORYLINE:
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday that Israel is prepared for "intense action" in the north.
During a visit to Kiryat Shmona, a northeastern Israeli city heavily targeted by Hezbollah attacks from the Lebanese territory, Netanyahu stated, "One way or another, we will restore security to the north," according to a statement from his office.
"Whoever thinks he can hurt us and we will respond by sitting on our hands is making a big mistake," he added.
As a result of rocket attacks, huge fires broke out near the city on Monday, extinguished by firefighters only on Tuesday. "The ground was burned here, but the ground was also burned in Lebanon," the prime minister noted.
During his visit, Netanyahu was briefed by senior military commanders on the operational situation in the area and met with firefighters.
On Tuesday, Israeli army chief Herzi Halevi said Israel has been "prepared" for an offensive in the north after Hezbollah intensified its attacks on the northern border.
"We are approaching a decision point," said Halevi.
Also on Tuesday, Deputy Secretary-General of Hezbollah Sheikh Naim Qassem said his group is ready to face a comprehensive war with Israel should the latter expand its attacks against Lebanon, Lebanon's news website Elnashra reported.
Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas' attacks on Israel the day before. Israel then retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.
