Six fishermen were killed when their boat caught fire off the Philippines on Wednesday evening.

The 11 crew members of the FBCA KING BRYAN were fishing when their vessel burst into flames about 1.5 nautical miles east of Naga City in Cebu province at around 8:25 pm on June 5.

The Philippine Coast Guard said it dispatched the MTUG HOMAM, a tugboat with firefighting capabilities, to respond to the fire.

Five anglers were rescued from the inferno while six were killed, including those who jumped overboard to escape.

Of the survivors, one was in critical condition with third-degree burns.

Authorities said the cause of the fire was being investigated.
