"I'm a professional sex toy tester - a normal office job is not for me"
A woman became a professional sex toy tester after realising a normal office job wasn't for her - and hopes to carry on doing it forever.
Sarah Riccio, 34, was working as a nanny before jacking it in to pick up another obscure role - a bed tester.
But then she traded it in for her dream role – testing sex toys.
A normal day sees her writing sex education articles, testing toys, filming toy reviews and tips as well as filming tutorials for sex position and techniques.
Sarah said: "I landed on the only thing I love more than sleep... sex and I absolutely love it."
Sarah, from New York, got into testing sheets, pillows, and mattresses after spotting a Craigslist advert in 2018.
"Thankfully it was legit and that's where I developed my unsuspecting skills for product reviewing," she said."
It was while reviewing beds that Sarah met her future business partner Rose who was a chief research officer at Sleepopolis - the same company Sarah reviewed beds for.
Two years later, in 2020, the pair both lost our jobs due to the pandemic and launched a sex toy website – Delicto - in summer 2021 which sells sex toys as well as providing advice and reviews on them.
Sarah said: "I thought the only thing I loved more than sleep was sex - so that's where we headed."
Sarah provides comprehensive reviews of all the latest sex toys – and has personally tested over 150 different sex toys.
She said: "We provide sex education, and tips and tutorials on how to use them. "
"When the business first launched, we had our ups and downs, and one point we thought should we just go back to work for the man? "
"But now we are bigger than ever."
Sarah also does informative TikTok videos providing "shame free education" on sex. "
Sarah says that most people feel daunted about where to start when buying a sex toy.
"The very first thing you need to look at when buying a sex toy is body safe materials," she said. "
"You get a lot of very large sex toy retailers which will sell insertable sex toys that are toxic for your body. "
"They are very cheap, so the average person doesn't know what is and is not safe to put inside their body. "
"They'll come to us and see a dildo that's like 30 bucks compared to Amazon for 10 dollars and wonder why it's more expensive – it's because we're using body safe materials."
Sarah says no matter who you are, everyone can find a sex toy which is right for them.
"Everyone's body is different – but there's something for everyone," she said."
"If you're a sex toy connoisseur you can find something very advanced, you can get toys where your partner can control you sex toy from across the globe, for example."
"There's also toys made to be totally silent and ones which use air pressure are becoming really popular."
Sarah says after her career change she was concerned friends and family would think she was doing porn.
"I was a little more private about it in the beginning, now I'm like no this is my business and I'm proud of it," she said. "
Among the toys she has personally tested recently she says the "grinding toys" are very good. "
"There's a series of toys called VibePad – they look odd – they are sort of circular in shape, flat flexible design and on top are these ridges so you put it on your chair then sit on it and you grind on it. "
"There's also one with a little flexible silicone tongue and one with a protruding insertable bit which you can sit on – it's a very interactive toy!"
Sarah says the key to her business – and her outlooks more broadly – is sex positivity.
"Sex positivity gets a little warped on internet – but it doesn't mean that you should be game to try anything – it just means you're erasing shame from the situation. "
"Whatever you want to do with your sexuality is exactly what you should do - no more, no less, that's ultimately the message that we are trying to spread."
