This is the dramatic moment a passenger plane came off the runway and burst into flames.

The footage emerged as it was revealed that pilot error was to blame for the accident at the airport in Chongqing, China, with the captain of Tibet Airlines flight TV9833 losing his licence.

Tibet Airlines was also fined RMB 900,000 (GBP 97,000) following the incident involving the Airbus A320 on May 12, 2022.

The flight had been scheduled to travel between Chongqing-Linzhi and according to the crew, the aircraft encountered an abnormality during takeoff and aborted the takeoff according to the procedure.

After it deviated from the runway at Chongqing Airport, the engine scraped the ground and caught fire. There were 122 people on board, including 113 passengers and 9 crew members.

All of them were evacuated safely. During the evacuation, 36 people were bruised and suffered sprains and were promptly sent to local hospitals for treatment.

According to the report of the Civil Aviation Administration of China Southwest Region issued on June 5, 2024, the CivilAviation Administration of China Southwest Region made the 'Notice on the Handling(Penalty) of the Tibet Airlines TV9833 Flight Runway Excursion Accident on May 12, 2022'.

They ruled that the accident was 'caused by crew handling errors'.

As well as a fine for the company and revoking the pilot's licence, they also revoked the licence for the second captain and ordered that the two main directors in charge of the company be fined 40 per cent of their annual income from 2021.

There were also financial penalties against more junior directors.
