In a demonstration of the United States' unwavering commitment to nuclear deterrence, a joint team of Air Force Global Strike Command Airmen, supported by Space Force Guardians, conducted a test launch of an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). The launch took place on June 4 at 12:56 a.m. Pacific Time from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.

The purpose of this test launch is to showcase the readiness and effectiveness of the U.S. nuclear force's safe and reliable deterrent capabilities. Equipped with one re-entry vehicle, the Minuteman III missile was launched as part of routine and periodic activities aimed at demonstrating the credibility of the nation's nuclear deterrent.

It is important to note that such test launches have occurred over 300 times before, and this particular test is not in response to any current world events. Instead, it is part of ongoing efforts to ensure that the U.S. nuclear deterrent remains robust and capable of deterring 21st-century threats while providing reassurance to our allies.
