STORYLINE:

Teachers and students from the U.S. have underlined the importance of exchanges between China and the U.S.

Coming from the University of Central Missouri (UCM), they are taking part in a Sino-American youth cultural exchange program in China's Hebei.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): CHIESI MATTHEW DWAYNE, Teacher at the UCM
"I think eventually the way the world is changing with climate change and technology. I think China and the U.S. eventually we have to help each other. I think every country (is) going to have to help each other. And if we don't, there's going to be a lot of sufferings and difficulties. So I really hope that the students have a good experience like I am having and realize that Chinese people are just like American people. And I think through educational exchanges like this, we see the best of real America and the best of real China."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): JORDAN AUSTIN, Student from UCM
"I think that educational exchanges like this one that I'm a part of, are very important because I've learned so many things here that I wouldn't be able to learn back in America and seen the culture. It's one thing to learn about it in the classroom, but it's another thing to experience it and live it with people here and get to meet them in that way."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): JONAH BENNETT, Student from UCM
"And I think that we have a lot to share culturally, historically. I think we can have a lot of differences. And I think we have a lot of similarities. And I think it's beautiful how well I have been able to communicate here. And from China to America, moving students between the two, I think we can learn a lot from each other. Thus exchange, I think, can do a lot of great things today and in the future for both our countries."
