Father and son ingeniously craft boat from 250 plastic bottles for the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival in eastern China
A father and his son used approximately 250 plastic bottles to construct a dragon boat ahead of the Dragon Boat Festival in eastern China.
The video was filmed in Lishui City in Zhejiang Province on June 5th.
Ms. Wu, the grandmother of the boy featured in the video, commented during an interview organised by the Xiaoxiang Morning Herald that the dragon boat measured 75 centimetres wide and 3.5 metres long. The boat was capable of accommodating three adults without sinking.
Wu explained that with the Dragon Boat Festival approaching, her grandson's kindergarten teacher suggested creating a dragon boat adorned with bamboo leaves. In light of her grandson's imminent graduation, her son proposed the idea of crafting a large dragon boat as a memento.
As Wu's family runs a grocery store, some of the bottles used for the boat originated from their shop, while others were procured elsewhere.
It took them less than two days to complete the project.
The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday which occurs on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar. It is celebrated by holding dragon boat races and eating sticky rice dumplings called zongzi. The Dragon Boat Festival integrates praying for good luck and taking respite from the summer heat.
